Hello everyone! My name is Makenna May and I am a third-year Foods and Nutrition major here at SDSU. I hope to become a doctor of osteopathy and someday practice the osteopathic approach in global medicine. I have participated in research with the Neuromechanics and Neuroplasticity lab at SDSU, volunteered with Flying Samaritans, and am in active member and community service advocate in Women in Sciences Society. I love all of my extracurriculars and am always happy to talk about them! When I am not studying or in meetings I love to take advantage of the outdoors in San Diego. I spend my time hiking, running, doing yoga, and playing beach volleyball. I also love to volunteer with Feeding San Diego, an organization near and dear to my heart. I joined pre-SOMA to meet others interested in what I thought was a much undiscovered approach to medicine. I soon learned I was totally wrong and was thankful to be connected to resources, conferences, and workshops that helped me get a better understanding of Osteopathic Medicine. I am thrilled to be on the track to treat people with a whole-body approach, and to spread my passions with other students at SDSU.

Hello all! My name is Sabrina Nguyen and I'm excited to serve as your SDSU Pre-SOMA treasurer. Otherwise, I am a third-year Biology student on the pre-medical track. As for my future plans, I am leaning towards pursuing M.D. However, I am extremely interested in all aspects of medicine - which is why I am involved in this organization! When I'm not glued to my laptop or textbooks from studying, you can find me involved in other organizations on and off campus. On campus, I have served as an intern, intern coordinator, and am currently the co-president of SDSU Vietnamese Student Association (SDSU VSA). I have also been involved with SDSU Asian American Pacific Islander Coalition (SDSU APPIC) as their Public Relations Director for the 2019-2020 academic year. Besides that, as long as there's good times with good people, you can count me in! Also, my toothbrush is electric. Whether we are friends or not, I am always a message away and I will always be willing to support you! Many tracks in medicine are rigorous, difficult, and lengthy... so might as well do it with others!!

Hi! My name is Hannah Edwards and I am in my third year as a public health major here at SDSU. My ultimate career goal is to be a well-rounded physician that can see the whole patient, and I appreciate that osteopathic medicine cultivates this focus. When I’m not in class or at work, you can find me volunteering at local food banks, writing blogs for SDSU’s chapter of the Women in Science Society, or participating in other community activities. In my free time I love listening to music, working out, spending time with friends, and searching for the best Thai food in San Diego. I joined pre-SOMA, not just for the opportunity to advance my knowledge of osteopathic medicine, but to help build a circle of like-minded individuals who are just as passionate about people, health, and community as I am.

Hello Everyone! My name is Ixchel Urbano, I am a second-year student at SDSU working towards a degree in Biology along with a minor in Women’s Studies. As a pre-medical student I am interested in all aspects of medicine. I have not yet decided whether I will pursue a M.D. or D.O. route; however, I make it a point to thoroughly educate myself on how both approaches to medicine best help the patient. On campus I am currently an active member in Women in Science Society, which is an amazing organization that in my first year of college connected me to many resources I continue to utilize on my path to becoming a doctor. I am also currently an active research participant in a biology lab, on campus, that focuses on biological methane conversion. In my free time I love to exercise, swim, and spend as much time with my family as possible. Medicine is definitely a long road for many college students; however, the beauty of the journey is that all who seek the rigorous path are truly passionate about creating bonds with
their patients in the future and helping others for the rest of their life. I feel very excited to be a part of pre-SOMA, and I look forward to both learning more about osteopathic medicine and making friendships along the way!

Hello! My name is Alyssa Uribe. I am a fourth-year Microbiology major at SDSU. I am interested in D.O. and M.D. programs, both of which will drive my passion for becoming a compassionate and holistic physician. Throughout my undergraduate career, I have had the opportunity to work in a Molecular Cardiology Research lab, participate and lead in the Women in Science Society, and mentor for the College of Sciences Student Success Center. I am also an intern for the national Women in Science Society non-profit organization. Aside from stem related activities, I am an initiated member of Delta Gamma and leader for Delight Ministries on campus. As a San Diego native, I spend my free time hiking, paddle boarding, and decompressing with yoga. I will be the first physician in my family and I am so excited to see what the future holds. The path to becoming a physician is challenging, however, Pre-Soma is a great resource for valuable information, opportunities, and support. I can't wait for the amazing experiences to come this year with Pre-Soma.
